First Day in Chengdu!

Day 1

Today, we reached Chengdu, China at around 630 in the morning. The moment we stepped out of the airport, we could feel the difference in temperature between Singapore and Chengdu.

At least for me, I didn’t expect Chengdu to be that cold:(( We rode a bus to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), where we would stay and study for the next 35 or 36 days.  In the bus, the teacher handed us a student card and we were told to take good care of it.

We were greeted by quite a number (around 10 or more, I think..) of student volunteers that were eagerly waiting to help us settle into our hostel. The male student volunteers helped with our luggage while the female student volunteers brought us to our respective rooms.

Where the girls stayed!

Each student volunteer was assigned to a pair of student. Our student volunteer was really nice and helpful. The readiness of the student volunteers to help us with anything that we need, really made we feel welcomed and I am thankful to them for that.

Qing Xiao, Kexin & Me!

We were told by our student volunteer, Qing Xiao that the student card has a similar function to that of a cash card and we would need it for a lot of things. It can be use to purchase hot water, to buy food and more.

Our Student Card!

This is unlike our Ngee Ann student card which is barely used by us for anything (except in year 1, where we scan the card before going for IPC lessons)!!.. For the rest of the morning, we cleaned our room before unpacking our luggage.

In the afternoon, we went to attend a welcome ceremony where we got to learn more about UESTC and its students. One of their top students, from the School of Automation Engineering, who speak fluent English:), showed us a couple of products that the students had came up with. The products look really impressive and that gives me a good impression of the school. It makes me excited to study in UESTC for the next 5 weeks!!:)
